Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by PepsiCo. Originally created and developed in 1893 by Caleb Bradham and introduced as Brad's Drink, it was renamed as Pepsi-Cola in 1898, and then shortened to Pepsi in 1961.

Pepsi Cola is one of the most recognizable products in the world today, almost as famous for its commercials as for its never-ending battle with rival soft drink Coca-Cola. From its humble origins more than 125 years ago in a North Carolina pharmacy, Pepsi has grown into a product available in multiple formulations.

The dominant brand personality for Pepsi was excitement. Paired samples t-test results showed that the dominant brand personality of Pepsi would be transferred to the consumer, followed by sincerity and ruggedness, which is in contrary to what was found for Coca Cola.

The primary modern flavorings in a cola drink are citrus oils (from orange, lime, and lemon peels), cinnamon, vanilla, and an acidic flavorant. Manufacturers of cola drinks add trace flavorings to create distinctive tastes for each brand.

In 1898, small-town pharmacist Caleb D. Bradham looked for a name that would better describe his formula -- which he was selling under the name "Brad's Drink." He bought the name "Pep Kola" from a local competitor and changed it to Pepsi-Cola.
